Obi & Rhino,
Good call on the personal limits. This is a very under rated skill to have.

These are all great additions, lets keep this going.

I knew all those years of getting my ass kicked would be good for something some day....

A bear hug can be a very effective technique when used appropriately, by the way.

Actually, when done correctly, it's a decent little control method for combative folks you want to settle down without doing any real damage. It also puts you close enough to whisper in their ear that if they don't settle down you'll drop them on their head and make them bleed. Not that I would ever do anything like that

Of course that assumes no one has gotten a weapon involved.

Yep. And if calming them doesn't work, it easily transitions into a throw, preferably onto their head.

Lifting someone from the ground with their arms pinned tends to limit their options if you are capable of doing it.

I'm not concerned about having it done TO me, though. Anyone who could bearhug me, lift me from the ground, and throw me is someone against whom I have no chance without a weapon.
