Home Brewing

Does anyone here home-brew?

I have flirted with the idea of brewing ales and did some reading on the subject, but never really had the time to dedicate to this hobby. The process seems simple enough and with attention to details, it seems like it could be done right.

Is there a good place in Central IN where I can buy everything I need to get started?

As always, your advice will be much appreciated.

I have been interested in this too. My neighbor has a ATFE licensed still that he makes interesting concoctions from. Needless to say, he and I always have a good winter and get our corn ONLY from the jar. I want to get into beers though.

Yeah, I've done it before. My roommate last year got one of those Mr. Beer kits and a 3 refill pack for his birthday. Best place I've seen for them has been online, but I have never looked offline. In addition to the little Mr. Beer brewing keg, we made a brewery out of a 5 gallon water jug and some other parts. You can find directions online to make your own brewery if you want, it's pretty easy and lets you brew more at a time

I would love to get into home brewing, but I could see it becoming just another hobby to siphon away my funds.

Ive made a few batches in the past. I still have all the supplies, glass carboys, loads of bottles and caps, even a kegerator. Its not hard to do, and you can really brew some tasty beer for pennies on the dollar. I used to call it "Sunday beer"... Kept in the basement for when Sunday rolled around and no beer could be had.:rolleyesedit:

The biggest problem most people have is contamination. Everything must be VERY CLEAN. A little dedicated space is nice, since the process takes a while, and you don't want to be moving stuff around during the brew.

The best place locally for supplies is Wine Art located @ Kessler Blvd and Keystone Ave. Very friendly and helpful folks.
