Ozone Generator

Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they really kill mold? I was thinking of buying one and putting it in my unfinished basement. Would I be better off just putting a dehumidifier in the basement?

I have used the purifiers from EcoQuest. These have been proven to kill viruses, etc on surfaces. You shouldn't be looking at strictly Ozone, but also RCI and Ionization. The RCI cleans, like Ozone. The Ionization is nice to drop dust out of the air. I'm not sure if they kill mold. I've used them to eliminate PVC pipe glue smell, break down cigarette smoke, viruses and bacteria.

Dehumidifier might be needed to keep mold from growing again, but it won't help it. All that happens with mold is it goes dormant when dry.

I have been looking at the ozone generators here: Ozone Generator / Air Purifier XT-800 - Mold-Kill Professional Ozone Generators

So what you are saying is that I should use an ozone generator to get rid of the mildew and/or mold and then use a dehumidifier to keep the problem from resurfacing. Is that right?

Yes. Mold requires moisture, so keeping humidity down will inhibit growth. You can also get anti-mold spray. This kills the mold and makes an environment that eliminates growth. I would probably supplement the ozone with something like this.

When the basement flooded, we had mold growth starting on the underside of the carpet. Spraying it with this killed it and we haven't had any regrowth problems. We run a dehumidifier with a hose drain to keep moisture down.

Do you think we could make a really really big one so we never have to hear Gore open his mouth again?
