Question Advice about Buicks

Picked-up a 1995 Buick Regal (4dr 3.8L) for cheap. It looks like it was owned by somebody's granny.

Any suggestions, advice, warnings, or words of wisdom to a non-GM person. I hear that the GM 3800 V6 is supposed to be pretty bullet-proof.

All I can say is that for a 13 yr. old car with 94K miles, it's runs great, idles so smooth you can't hear it run, and is in great shape!!

Thanks!!!

The 3.8L is a good engine. Much better than the 3.4L that came before. I would just make sure the tranny fluid looks good, and you will be good to go.

Yep...should be bullet proof.

Just do NOT hotrod a car of that "vintage". You'll soon be sorry if you're prone to jack-rabbit starts from stoplights.

Doing that crap spun a rod bearing in my 1990 LeSabre (in 2002, with 160k miles)

The engine and transmission SHOULD be good for oodles and oodles more miles. The body, on the other hand, is iffy. I think that 1995 is way post "crappy GM paint" that plagued some chevy cars.

Baby it...be prepared to probably replace the alernator (can even do that your self...or hubby...)

Happy Driving.

Thanks Paul. I was planning on doing a tranny service, so that's just reinforcement to me to get it done!!

I have a personal thing against Buicks... I had one throw a rock at my windshield about 2 weeks ago. Before that happened I just thought that they are ugly as sin, slow, handle like a bag of marshmallows, GM FWD, and did I mention ugly?

Should make a good cheap beater though. Hope it works out for ya!
