Would you post your less than favorable thoughts in a WTS/WTT?

If you had reasonable cause and could reasonably argue that a product in a WTS/WTT thread is overpriced or of poor quality, would you post your thoughts to caution uneducated buyers?

The reason I ask is because I don't think it's uncommon for people to acclaim certain products and encourage others to buy, but I have not seen advice which would steer buyers away.

It is against forum rules to post negative comments in someone's for sale thread. It should be done privately.

No, but if I saw someone showing interest in a bogus trumped up item, I'd PM them with informative links to research for themselves as a "heads up".

I have noticed several sales posts that were obviously way overpriced. I didn't know it would be against the rules, but I didn't post since I haven't been around long enough to know what is acceptable in that situation (glad I didn't). We just recently had an ad that was higher for a used gun than a brand new one was currently advertised (no extras, no difference that would make the higher price understandable). It just so happened that there was a post about the price in a separate thread posted on the same day or soon thereafter, so it was very apparent. I hate to see anyone taken advantage of, but as always caveat emptor.

I think, privately contacting the interested buyer is unfair because it does not allow the seller to provide a counter-argument. Of course, I am speaking of respectful and factual conversation not shit-slinging fest.

5. Keep comments on ads related to the ad directly.
  • Related comments being: "Can you provide more pictures, How many rounds fire, etc."
  • Non-related comments along the lines of: "You're price is crazy high. What a POS, Etc."
I guess I'm missing something..

Errr... no.

Like others wrote, I might PM someone showing interest in an unreasonably overpriced item (yep, seen 'em here) but I would never trash another's sell thread. On most forums (guns/knives) that's considered the height of "bad form."

Just don't do it. If it looks like someone is trying to fleece the INGO members, the post will be dealt with accordingly. This has been done in the past and will be done again if necessary. There is no need to bash someone's ad because you think their price is out of line. If you see someone asking what you think is a high price, simply move along and don't buy it.
