How do I kill this fiendish creature?

I first saw a few leaves of this plant about two months ago and now it has overtaken almost half of my front yard and it has gotten so dense that it's killing my grass. They are spreading faster than I can pull them.

What is this damn thing and how can I kill it? Fire is not option.

For the record, I use Scott's lawn products. I guess this plant is part of the 0.01% that Scott's doesn't kill (they claim to kill 99.99%).

I've got the same stuff.

I just mow it like grass. I've accepted my fate and just tell everyone it's a new hybrid grass that is drought and disease resistant.

Seriously, it's taking over my yard as well. I'm planning on getting some professional help (for my yard).

That is Ground Ivy (creeping perennial) and is very difficult to kill.

You can search for ground ivy and search for "Trimec" Several applications of that will kill it but you aren't ging to find it at Wal Mart.

In the mean time I suggest you raise the deck of the mower to the highest setting possible. Most people cut their grass way too short and weeds thrive.

The way I look at it is more Ground Ivy = less grass = less mowing

Thanks, Fenway. I raised the mower to the highest setting per your advice a couple of months ago. I'll look up Trimec.

If you need Trimec and you live in Central Indiana, you can get it in Avon at The Old Farm Market. I hear there is a good guy who works there and knows some stuff about weeds and how to kill them (and why Scotts products don't work)
