Anyone on Ingo ever fish Trail Creek in northern Indiana for the Salmon run in early spring, I am interested in bank fishing, what area and good access for the foot fisherman? I have never been there, I want to go in March, any info. and tips on how to catch will be appreciated!

| Plinker | wow ive went there in the fall for the salmon run lol didnt know they ran i n the spring i went up 421 to i think it was 20 and took it right towards south bend you will cross trail creek and go left its called the y if you go farther north you will cross it where it comes out of the lake there are several spots down the creek to fish i always thought the trout were the fish that spawned in the spring dont know just went for salmon hope this helps you |

![]() | The hwy 20 access is ok but it gets pounded pretty hard. The early salmon run is coho's only. You are better off fishing the mouth of the creek which is next to the DNR station, or going out on the the breakwall. The easiest way to find this area is look for the BIG nipsco smoking tower. There are a lot of fish around these areas. Make sure you have a long handled net. The fish will average about 3 pounds. There will be a good number of steelhead mixed in with them that will be up to 20 pounds. My favorite meathod this time of year is to throw a couple lines out with slip bobbers set at 5' with night crawlers or small salad shrimp. I use 6# flourocarbon for live bait fishing or 10# for hardbaits. Small orange spoons and rattletraps also work well. Another creek spot would be an area called friendship gardens. It has a lot of deep holes and undercuts. |
