.22LR semi auto pistol for squirrel hunting

I use a 22/45 MKIII Ruger with the bull barrel and can't imagine a better set up to nail tree rats with. All in that is one of my all time favorite pistols.

I use Ruger MKII Targets with a 1.5 or 2x scope. I think out of the Box the MK III Hunters 's are the best base gun.

No matter what gun you get, I think it should have target sights on it. A bull barrel but no need for 7" and up, 5.5 works fine for me. You should be able to hit golf balls and bottle tops at 25 yards with it. Practice practice practice before you scope it. It breeds confidence in yourself and the gun to make one shot kills.

Low power scope helps cut down on the wobble factor, which can drive you nuts with a handgun, but if you find a rest, non-issue. Again practice.

I have often thought a revolver with both 22lr and 22mag may be a good set up. 22mag with the scope, 22lr with open sights.

Same here, I can hit a 6" gong, standing, unsupported,at 100 yards with mine and a 4 power scope.

I use a Magnum Research Mountain Eagle with a 2x6 scope on it and it works great.

I should say that I am also thinking this pistol would also serve as practice for shooting a 1911. Marvel arms makes a .22LR conversion kit that is highly accurate and I have thought of that too. Aging eye will probably require a low power scope, any suggestions there?

if you can get a conversion kit for your 1911 that would be ideal as youll get plenty of practice in with your 1911 for cheap. as far as a low powered scope I dont know much about pistol scopes,I have a cheapo simmons pistol scope from wally world on my 44 and I like it..cant even think of the model or magnification,Ill have to look when I get home from work.
one of these day Im going to get me a taurus tracker or raging hornet in 22mag or 17hmr for hunting tree rats..they look perfect for that..but they are revolvers.

The Marvel conversion does have an excellent reputation. You might want to consider an UltraDot 1" red dot scope. They have no magnification, but make accurate shooting very easy for those of us with old eyes. The UltraDot is light in weight, durable, reliable, has repeatable click windage and elevation adjustments, and has a lifetime warranty. I own several.

what about the ruger charger 10/22 pistol it could work
