I Saw Antlers Today!!

In the Wheat field, across from my wife's work. Nice 6-8 point in velvet. First deer I have seen all season with horns. I am starting to get excited already, and November is such a long way away. This will be the first year in about 15 that I plan to really, seriously get into deer hunting. I've been going the last couple, but just going to a small patch of woods, and not really doing any serious scouting. I have been trying to do a little more planning, and seeing this really gave me an adrenaline boost!!!

Anyway, I was just wondering if this is about the normal time to start noticing the antlers, or have I not been paying attention. I usually watch all the time while driving, looking back into the fields and such, and this is the first set I rember this year.

I have yet to see any antlers but there have been plenty of does. One guy on another forum posted pics from his trail cam with a good 8 or 10 in it.

out here there is a 12,10,6,4 running around in my woods that im currently trying bag before sept 15th (dep tags expire). havent seen them in a week but they will be back.

I'm hoping to get my dep tags soon, if the government doesn't shut down on me... I called today and have an appt for the area biologist to come out on Thurs and look things over.

Just last night I saw 2 bucks, (200 yards away looking through the scope on my M44) that were around 6 pts or so, and 4 does. So I know at least that many are in the immediate area. Then saw a nice size doe cross the road in front of me when i was driving down the road there by our woods again tonight. Now I just need those tags and will fill a couple freezers up nice and quick

We've been seeing them for about 6 weeks now. Seem one about 4 weeks ago thats going to have a nice droptine but thats Atterbury and we have a ton of deer.

Saw a couple of does on our road trip...thats it so far. My neighbor sees a couple of brothers almost every morning in the corn field... I don't get up early enough I suppose.

I have kicked up 6 fawns in the last month bailing hay. I kicked one up last night that was the smallest I have ever seen. It ran into the woods about 60 yards away and fell 3 times. I would have to say it was only a few days old but in my mind its a little late in the year to be that young. I bet it couldn't have been 24 inches tall yet. Still no bucks.
