![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | They are dead before the adrenalin rush is over, most in 15 seconds. They had a good life in the wild, now that chicken you got from the stored was jammed 10 dirty birds to a cage, never saw the light of day, pumped full of roids and antibiotics, then electrocuted. So which story is sad?

This is exactly what I tell people who flame me for hunting. They have no problem eating a burger or chicken raised for that and didn't even have a chance but, when it comes to me spending hours in the woods for maybe one shot where so many variables can change in a matter of seconds and the deer has an even better chance of surviving than not...they don't like that.![]()

Aim small, miss small, if you think you have a good shot on the heart and it turns out "a little wrong" you will get one lung at least and probably still get them both. Lung shots just mean nasty meat and all the rest of those rigamarole recipes and shinanagins for special venison marinates that are really nothing but attempts to salvage what started as a bad shot. Take out the pump first, that's the first step to good eats. Who would ever aim at the 5 ring just because they don't think they could hit the bull? |

![]() ![]() | Interesting Jack. You are not a bow hunter, correct? You dont see the lung shot as a good option for firearms? A heart shot a little low or to far forward could be a lost injured deer. Not to mention the loss of meat that comes with the perfect broadside heart shot. What do you think is wrong with the meat from a lung shot animal? I cant tell the difference. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Both lungs for me too And the head shot was just one of those options I didn't really expect people to answer...I do aim small miss small. But, if you happen to miss big ( 3-4") @ 20 yds with bow you can easily miss the deer but, if you're aiming for the lungs you can still clip the bottom and maybe hit the heart by chance. The adrenaline of the deer is over in seconds. 15 seconds is a long time for a lung shot usually you're looking r around 5 seconds on a good solid lung shot.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Lungs here as well for reasons already stated. Last season a buddy double lunged an 8 pointer with a 12 gauge slug and that deer ran a good 200 yards and jumped 2 fences in the process. We found lung butter before we got to the first fence and knew he would drop. It wasn't until we field dressed that we saw the holes through both lungs and he still made it that far. The only difficult part of tracking him was when he jumped the first fence, crossed the road and jumped the second fence. |
