![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I shot this deer at 25 yds and hit ONE lung. He ran 60 yds and dropped. The "aim small, miss small!" comments really need to be thought about guys. Just because I aom for lungs dosen't mean us lung shooters don't aim small. I aim in the area of the lungs what I aim at is a hair on the deer. "Stay calm, Pick a spot." We don't shoot "at" the lungs so to speak but at a spot where our room for error is bigger than you heart shooter guys. To prove the point. Take a look at the vitals of a deer the heart is lower than the lungs. What happens if you shoot low or a little to the right? If you are aiming around the lungs a shot to the right, left, top, bottom is still going to strike the lungs. Not trying to be a smart@$$, just feel strongly about this topic. ![]()

60 yards can be a long way in thick brush or almost dark and I don't like to chase them not to mention the taste of one that runs until it bleeds out. When meat is the whole point of shooting it, I want it to be right not good enough. One lung is usually good enough but I'm not going to take a shot with the intent of getting "one lung". Now if I'm looking at a big pot of antler stew as a topping to the meat dish, then it could very well be a whole different story and I'd probably take a shot if I thought I'd get a double lung. Congrats and that's a nice buck, a REALLY nice buck with a bow of any kind. Last edited by Jack Ryan; 07-06-2009 at 23:03. | |

![]() | I usually aim for the heart. I have aimed for the lungs and on a doe I hit her in the lungs, she ran about 45 yards, stopped, and started walking away. I hit her again in the lungs and she ran another 20 yards and stopped. I hit her again in the heart and she went another 40 yards or so and stopped. So I said screw it and hit her in the heart with the 4th shot and dropped her. This was confirmed when I field dressed her and the lungs were pretty much obliterated and the heart was missing the bottom third of it. Since then, I haven't been able to bring myself to take the chance on the lungs again. Also, I've never had a problem with a blood trail diminishing after hitting the heart. |
