![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Some people often confuse Mennonite with Amish. Mennonite use some modern advancements but live somewhat like the Amish. They usually are shunned by the Amish. Too bad the Amish are labeled badly by people who dont understand or respect their culture.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Amish Gun Question I am sure some of the Amish people have guns. If they don't embrace technology....what type of guns do they use for hunting etc. I can't believe they would be muzzle loaders. ![]()

and you can make good money taking some extra guys to work with you. typical rate is $4 a way. so if you pick him up and take him home, its $8. get 4 of those guys to and from work.... $48 a week. some guys charge more, some less. alot of backward thinking about them, like i said before.

Yes you can become Amish but it's rare that people from the out side have the stamina or determination to last long. | |

| Professor ![]() | Ok, here we go. I have family that is "amish". I have been to several of their sermons, and churches in my life. Around here, they call themselves "members". Most folks like that are actually called "Old Order German Baptist". People tend to call them amish for short. Earlier this year, A well known one to the community of the town of Camden was killed when his buggy was struck by an elderly motorist, also killing the horse (This is why elderly should not drive). They live the way they do because they feel they should live modestly and technology is "un Godly". After all, back in biblical times, they didnt have radios, tvs , cars, etc. Jesus always preached to be simple, self sufficient, you know, the clothes on your back and so on and so forth. They tend to be good people, but do have their issues with sin like the rest of us. Most that I knew sort of had a hollier than thou attitude if you knew them more than just passing by sayin hi. One thing I can say is they are VERY strong people. Shake one's hand once, you'll see. I bailed hay as a teenager, and we delivered some to some "dunkards" on several occasion. The young boys would toss the (slightly wet) bails of hay from the wagon up to the hay loft in their barn! Thats like 15 feet up. We would use the machine that is like a conveyor belt that the bails ride up. These (young, mind you) boys were tossing them like they were easy. WOW. Anyhow, they are just VERY committed to GOD, thats why they are the way they are.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think the big Amish and Mennonite communtiy around here is in Daviess county (Odon down to Montgomery). There are a lot of nice houses through there and not a one has a utility pole in the yard. One rumor I heard awhile back was a problem with the Amish drinking and "driving". They would get in their buggy and pass out. The horse knows the way home but the horse doesn't know to stop at stop signs. Like I said, rumor. The Amish around here are gun owners as well. There is an Amish store (Freedom Country Store) north of Worthington on highway 67 that is also a deer and turkey check station. |

![]() ![]() | Living in SW Montgomery Co. I see a lot of Amish. One night I was going up the hill into Waveland and thought a combine was coming down, flashing lights, rotating light on top, bright headlights that stuck out and so on...Waited until it got right up on me and turned out it was a buggy!!! LMAO for being fooled so bad, but the amish guy was safe.....
