![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The Amish near Turkey Run are great people in my book. My grandfather used to have a little farm about 20 minutes from the park, and when he decided to buy a retired trotter and a buggy he hired an Amish craftsman to do all the leatherwork and help set up the buggy. I took one ride with him during the process and while he was teaching me how to drive a cart he told me that many of the children born Amish decide to leave the community for the comforts of modern living. He told me that they tend to want TV, and computers, and phones as teenagers, but after they become adults a large number choose to give these things up and return to the lifestyle and community. So, yes, it is possible for one person who is not presently living an Amish lifestyle to become part of the community.

![]() ![]() | You were in my part of state. I carry mail NE corner Parke County, 35 Amish families on my route (Rt 2 Rockville). I have a lot of respect for them. They are just like us, a few wild ones. Two of our neighbors are Amish, one of which is being shunned at present. I don't socialize with them (don't care for horses) other than on route. There are a lot of people who make their living hauling them around. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Some people often confuse Mennonite with Amish. Mennonite use some modern advancements but live somewhat like the Amish. They usually are shunned by the Amish. Too bad the Amish are labeled badly by people who dont understand or respect their culture.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think the big Amish and Mennonite communtiy around here is in Daviess county (Odon down to Montgomery). There are a lot of nice houses through there and not a one has a utility pole in the yard. One rumor I heard awhile back was a problem with the Amish drinking and "driving". They would get in their buggy and pass out. The horse knows the way home but the horse doesn't know to stop at stop signs. Like I said, rumor. The Amish around here are gun owners as well. There is an Amish store (Freedom Country Store) north of Worthington on highway 67 that is also a deer and turkey check station. |

![]() ![]() | Living in SW Montgomery Co. I see a lot of Amish. One night I was going up the hill into Waveland and thought a combine was coming down, flashing lights, rotating light on top, bright headlights that stuck out and so on...Waited until it got right up on me and turned out it was a buggy!!! LMAO for being fooled so bad, but the amish guy was safe.....
