![]() | about a year ago an Amish buggy pulled out directly in front of me and my enormous Chevy Caprice. I mean RIGHT in front of me. didnt look or anything. I was going about 35 or so, slammed on the brakes and had to take the ditch. Every since then... a personal vendetta. haha![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Quite a few Amish (or Mennonite) in this area and I've interacted with many of them in the last 3 years. I shop some at the Amish store, I've had a barn built and I buy some items from the Amish Feed Mill & Livery. I've been to Dinky's once and love to eat at the Black Buggy in Washington. To this day, I've never had a problem. I give their carriages a wide birth and the same respect that they afford to me.

![]() | Ive learned alot about Amish people this last month, theres still tons to learn. Very interesting people, which get a bad rap some times. Very very smart people, ones in my area DO have cell phones and are just like you and I but without the Land line or power grid. Couldnt ask for a better bunch, they treat you just like family as long as you respect them in return. |

![]() | My family is amish on my mother's side. My grandpa was what you might call "full amish" having grown up his whole life there, until he left for the war, and did not return after. We still spent many summers there, and never have I felt looked down on for the lifestyle my family has chosen. Yes, they all use horses and buggies, although there are 25 cars at the family reunions (just from the extended family though, not theirs).... I think there is alot of confusion about the Amish. They are courteous, hospitable, and hard working!!! And let me tell, the men are strong! Most likely from all that manual labor...For a days work, I would pick a skinny amish cousin over any 300lb lineman. |

![]() | I forgot to add, they live in Nappanee area and dont use electricity, though I have seen them use gas lanterns to light the pavillion. They have a great sense of humor, even able to "pretend to shun" my cousin (from other side of the family) when he told them he was a union electrician. They waited just until his face was turnip red, before smiling..classic. |
