![]() | Amish I was at Turkey Run this past Sunday/Monday and ran into (not quite, almost though BUT I was very disturbed by something. They don't believe in technology, which is evidenced by the lack of a poop collection system for their horses, but they do have flashing lights on their buggies!! WHAT GIVES?? Do they buy batteries? Solar power? ![]() |

| INGO Bishop of Bacon ![]() | It's not that they don't believe in technology, it's more that they believe in self-sufficiency. They also recognize that they don't live in a vacuum and there are certain things they need to do to make their buggies street-legal. Sometimes it's just a candle and a colored lens.

![]() | Yes I would definitely believe that. Across from the street from where I used to work the Amish mow their grass with a bush hog pulled behind a horse. He stands on the top of the bush hog all majestic like Pharoah on a chariot or something haha. |

![]() | Once was a chaperone on a grade school trip to an Amish farm. We slept in the barn where there was located inside, a basketball goal. They wouldn't play outside, but had rousing games in that barn. They don't hook up to the power grid, but will have a generator to power their power tools. No phones either, but will use the pay phone down the road when thay have the need, or your cell phone. Can't say all Amish do these things, but did observe these in my case. Very nice and interesting people. |

| Always Out-Numbered Never Out-Gunned ![]() | Be nice, those are my relatives. Well not all of them obivously. There are buggies in the north (Shipshawana/Mishawaka) that have a poop catch for the horses. It seems that some embrace technology more than others. Depends on the area and the bishop. Most can be friendly but the ones that I grew up around could be a PITA.

![]() ![]() | The amish will use technology, they will not use. They don't believe in having any "connection" to the outside world, so they will not hook up to elictrical lines or phone lines, but they'll use generaters or something thats not hooked up to their house. Lots of different ways for different folks, I'm sure different groups of them have different ways, but all of the ones I've met were very nice. |
