Squirrels nesting???

I was sitting out on my screened in porch when I noticed a squirrel up in a tree ripping off branches. He was then taking them down to a crook in a branch and building a nest. Isn't this a little late in the year for nest building?

I'd chalk it up to Global Warming. I'm sure there is a chapter in Al's book about the squirrels.

Youngsters starting a new home. I've seen a couple around here doing that.

Yup, that pretty much covers it. Most of the young ones have now been kicked out of mom's nest or den, and are now fending for themselves. Summer nests serve several purposes, one is a shady place, up in the breeze, out of sight of birds of prey, where they can nap during the heat of the day. Nests also provide fairly good protection from night preditors, and will provide some cover from the rain.

Actually, I would guess it's a little early. Mabey we are gonna have an early winter.

A early winter would sorta shoot Al Gore and the Global Warming theory in the foot wouldn't it.

There is also the possibility that their nest has been destroyed. We've had some pretty fierce storms up my way that has taken down several trees. Maybe they've been "relocated" like refugees!

Mabee there is a new Alpha Squirrel in the hood and pushed the one you seen out of a tree.
