Dove hunting

anyone in the Evansville area do any dove shooting? and if so ya want to get together this season to ruffle some feathers?{Sept 1st}
I usually hunt private property but I'm gonna hunt the DNR sun flower fields this year,I seen that blue grass FWA and Hovey lake both planted some fields again this year...I use to hunt both places but havent been to either in a few years,someone told me you have to use steel shot at both locations,is there any truth to that? if so that could get pretty expensive quick! I think I recall haveing to use steel shot at Hovey but cant really recall.

Not from evansville, but love to dove hunt. I hunt around a lot of dairy farms around the johnson county area just south of indy. We did really really well last year. The best time for us was just after they cut silage. Good luck and happy shooting!

Elberfeld busy last year.I'm trying the river bottoms this year. Any good spots in Booneville? I've never used steel shot for dove hunting.

only decent spots I know of in Boonville you need a dog to retrieve your birds as it mostly over water.
drove around elberfeld last weekend just messin around and seen a few places that already had doves in the field..of course the season is a month or so away so either more will show up or the ones there will leave.
I enjoy dove hunting in elberfeld as its not really fast paced shooting{usually} those fast paced shoots are fun sometimes but Im the type of person that would rather sit there and relax in the outdoors for a few hours. seems when ever I hunt the fields I have a limit within the first hour and back at home bored again

Elberfeld isn't bad, there is just too many people. Last year on opening season, I think people slept in their trucks the night before just to get a good spot. We got up there real early and it was already packed. Can't you limit twice a day on dove? I'm gonna scout the bottoms in a few weeks.... I've seen a sh*t load of dove on the west side.

no there is a daily limit and there is a posession limit{which is 2 times the daily limit} I think by posession limit they mean whats in your freezer/fridge or what have ya.

I try to stay away from the big crowds and will hunt sometimes a mile or two from where all the shooting is. I dont like getting rained on with shot

That sucks. You could run thru some $$$ dove hunting with steel!
Guess I won't hunt on conservation ground this year.

In Missouri I would have to say that this program works...steel shot restricts many hunters thus increasing the upland game...this in turn shows the conservation officer steel shot = more small game thus more places are going to steel
