![]() | I'll go with my 8pt archery buck - it was ~ 8:30 heard one tearing up a scrape on down from where I was set up, 5 min later or so here he comes wandering in - stopped about 25yds out just a slight quartering towards but I figured I still had a decent look so I took the shot (I've been guilty of waiting too long for the perfect shot and almost blowing it in the past so I'm trying to get past that) Let it fly heard the hit and off the boy goes, heard a crash and it looked like I had good blood at the shoot site but I still wait on an archery shots just to be sure. During that time I had a 3pt. come in to the exact same spot and sniff around, had a little doe at 35yds. - no interest from me on her and had a shootable sized doe at 40 but that's beyond my comfort range. Climbed down and checked the shoot area - blood everywhere; had to be a heart shot. Walked back to the house to get my sled and one of the girls to help me drag it out. My older daughter (20) volunteered - we found the arrow and off she went to track him (she loves to track) - she found him maybe 50-70yds away. Other than the drag back being a pain , a fun time and a good memory was made together. I love deer season! |

![]() ![]() | Last season: I shot a nice 8-pointer with my bow on the 4th weekend. Trailed it all the way down to the bottom of the property I hunt, took about an hour and a half. When I got to where the big blood pile was the deer was gone. There were drag marks through the leaves and out to the field, where there were 4 wheeler marks cutting across the field. Blood was in the trail the whole way. We had a major tresspassing and poaching problem last year. I was pissed, this was the first deer I've ever had stolen from me. Later in the year in gun season I shot 2 does and a 10 pointer with my .458 Socom AR. I shot the 2 does the first weekend of gun about 20 minutes apart. I shot the buck the second weekend of gun. I also took this grey fox in bow season. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
