killing time in the tree stand

curious how deer hunters kill time on stand. if its a dark to dark hunt i usually take a book or hunting magazine to read

Yes! I'm a light sleeper when I'm in the woods, so I just fade in and out of sleep. Any large noises (running deer) I'll be able to pick up on and wake up. Small noises (squirrels and deer slowly walking through) I'll fade in and out enough that I can usually pick up on them before they move into visual range.

However, hunting over open ground, where you can see things before you hear them, I always stay awake (there are plenty of things to watch over open ground to occupy the time).

THATS FUNNY!! I was just talking with a guy on the phone that I hunt with every year. In years past I have seen more and shot more deer than he.

we were talking about what we do in the woods. My answer was simple, sit there and don't move or make sounds!!
