| Saturday Morning Squirrel Hunt I hope everyone was able to get out this morning. The temperatures were nice. There was just enough of a breeze to keep most of the skeeters off. I slipped into the woods and made my way down a trail. The woods were very quiet due to my noise getting into the woods. AFter about 15 minutes of carefully making my way in, I had cover maybe 100 yards, the woods began to come back to life. I soon found myself approaching a big tall hickory. It almost sounded like it was sleeting. You could see the bits of hull and shell dropping down through the limbs and leave and hitting the ground. You could see limbs occasionally bouncing as the big fox squirrels jumped to their next nut. I ended up seeing two up in that tree. They seemed to be working the hickories more than the oaks this morning. I found a small hickory about another 100 yards down the hill. That squirrel apparently spotted me as he began chattering away and actually ran down a limb toward me and then stopped. I watched him watching me for a few minutes just enjoying it. All together I probably saw 8 and could have taken 6. I took 2 as that is all we will eat at one time and I no longer take any more than we will eat at that time, having thrown away way too much game and fish from the freezer over the years.
