The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking charges against three Tri-county residents for the alleged poaching of a 14-point buck with a drop tine in Webster County.
Authorities said that Dakota Gentry, 19, and James Clark III, 19, both of the 13000 section of U.S. 41-Alternate, and a 17-year-old Webster County resident, were caught early Monday morning after an investigation by the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
Officer Josh Gunn with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife said his agency is seeking charges against Clark and the juvenile for shooting from a vehicle, hunting at night with lights, shooting upon a public roadway and illegal taking of a deer.
Gentry, who is accused of driving the vehicle at the time of the alleged poaching, faces facilitation to shooting from a vehicle, facilitation to hunting at night with lights, facilitation to shooting upon a public roadway and facilitation to illegal taking of a deer.
The juvenile faces an additional charge of failure to tag. Gunn said this is from a separate incident.
The offenses are misdemeanors or violations, Gunn said.
The investigation began in Henderson County when sheriff's Deputy Jay Workins received a call from Central Dispatch.
Workins said he was told that a Webster County resident was following a vehicle occupied by people the resident believed were manufacturing methamphetamine in a barn on his property in Tildon off of Kentucky 56.
"(The property owner) saw the vehicle, got the plate number, but then lost the vehicle," Workins said.
The resident and Workins met at the Poole Store to discuss the situation when the vehicle drove by, Workins said.
Workins said he stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by Gentry and Clark. "They had already dropped off the juvenile at home," Workins said.
Further investigation revealed that Gentry, Clark and the juvenile had been poaching, not making meth, Workins said.
In addition, Gentry and Clark admitted that this was not the first time they'd been involved in poaching, Workins said.
The deer and the .22-caliber rifle used to kill the deer, were both recovered, Workins said.
