best time of the day to squirrel hunt?

Squirrels are active at all times of day, however I have found that once the sun hits and starts to warm their nest is when they seem to be the most active. I would say mid morning threw late afternoon...

I have lots of luck with mornings, up until noon or even later at times. Pellet gun, back porch, in the city

My dad's neighbor's yard is like a damn squirrel preserve! No telling how many have come out of there, and that pellet gun drops em pretty good with a head shot.
Back to the OP, mind mornings and early afternoons have been golden for me here lately.

I'd like a gamo- as long as it's quiet some airguns are too loud for use in neighborhoods.

I use a wally-world Remington 10-pump pellet gun... it's decent, but i wish for more accuracy. It loses zero from time to time.
