![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Why do people have trail cameras? I have never been hunting, but I thought the point was to get out and experience the outdoors. Not check cameras, then swing by for a quick shot when the deer are typically showing up. I understand this is much less time consuming, but doesn't that kind of take the sport out of it? If I'm way off base, I apologize. I was just curious as to the reasoning behind the cameras. I'm all about "gadgets" so to speak, and I honestly can't see myself having a camera as part of my hunting tools. |

It really doesn't have anything to do with timing the deer. When gun season starts usually during some point of the rut the deer will be running all over without anything close to a schedule. The rut makes them run all over and when the shooting starts they run even more. I bought the cameras because it's very motivating for me to know that A.) there actually are deer out there, and B.) what kind of deer are on the property. The cameras are part of the pre work to the hunt for me this year. It was a lot of fun to try and figure out where to put them, and also it gets me out there pounding the mud a little more. I've been staying out of the woods but the cameras allow me to know what's out there. This particular property has showed me a lot of sign over the last three years, but I haven't seen many deer. Now I know they are mostly moving at night. It doesn't do anything to help or hurt, but it's just nice to know. Does this make sense?

![]() ![]() | I use my cameras for multiple purposes. Yes, they are primarily ther to take pictures of deer. These pictures let me know populations, health, and if "Mr. Big Horns" is calling my property home. I would have better luck guessing what time someone else was going to take a piss than what time a buck was giong to come through. Having the pictures causes me to spend no less time in the woods. But they do help decide where my stands are going to be. The cameras are also handy at identifying trespassers.

I think if you were a hunter you would get it. Trail cameras are just another way to get involved in the hunt and to see what's going when you can be there.

![]() | Teddy, those are some great pictures. Much better than my remington takes. I thought about the moultree. It was on sale for $100 more. The remington has gotten many pictures of deer, but it really shows up in B&W when it should be in color. That is really the only complaint I have. I use my camera much for the same reason you do. MOTIVATION! Good luck to everyone on the up coming week! |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm not using an expensive camera at all. Here is a link to the one I use on Cabelas website: Cabela's -- Moultrie Game Spy 4.0 Megapixel Digital Camera |
