Hunting from a "Permanent Structure"

I've always been under the impression that you were NOT allowed to hunt from a "permanent structure".

Someone else tells me the law reads no hunting from a permanent structure "on DNR/state property".

The question arose because of a suggestion that I sit on the roof of a barn to get a vantage point to take a deer from a particular property. I told the person making the suggestion I thought that was an illegal move.

I would LIKE to sit up there, but I want to be legal.

Anyone know the LEGAL definition of this code? Or IS there such a code?

You know they have a web page where you can find this stuff out for your self and you don't have to take stranger's word on the internet?

You are not allowed to build a permenant structure on public land, state or federal. If you are caught hunting from one they will just presume you are responsible for it and be ticketed the same as if you built it that day yourself.

You can hunt from your own barn roof all you want so long as there are no other prohibitive laws or local zoning.

We have 4 permanent " structures " on on my brother in laws ground all legal. as said prior not allowed on public property!

"Tree Stands
Tree stands may be used for hunting deer
during all deer hunting seasons. It is illegal
to erect or hunt from a permanent tree
blind on state-owned or state-leased lands.
Portable tree stands may be used on stateowned
or state-leased lands, U.S. Forest
Service lands and lands of the Muscatatuck,
Patoka River and Big Oaks National Wildlife
Refuges and may be left overnight only
between Sept. 1 and Jan. 10. Exception: At
Kingsbury FWA, no stands may be placed
until noon, Sept. 1.
A fastener used in conjunction with a tree
stand and a tree or pole climber that penetrates
a tree more than ½ inch is prohibited
on these lands.
A tree stand placed on public land must
be legibly marked with the owner’s name,
address and telephone number."
