Truly a MASTERPIECE of investigative journalism, and he qualifies all claims. He details the methodology of his studies, the reasons for using said methods versus others. He points out where other research on the subject is flawed, and I've yet to find anyone to discredit his work.
He will give you ALL the "ammo" you need to debunk her "statistics.

I went through a similar situation. Then told her about it after the fact. She got pissed. She asked if I could return it. I said no. Then, I let her handle it unloaded at home, took her to the range. She chilled out. It turned her on. She eventually bought her own. Remember this, it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Her second arguement when I shrug off the first is "I don't want you spending time in jail!"

I'm not sure how to answer that... because in a situation that you use your gun as self-defense, aren't you still in mighty-big trouble?

Easy response:

"And I don't want to protect you from a rapist with a broom handle!"



And if you have to use a gun, really have to, your quick run to the station will be the last concern on her mind. She will just be happy that you are both alive. Anything short of that and the gun will never leave the holster!

This exact topic has been covered *numerous* times, but not recently, so thanks for the reminder!

Mostest important thing: keeping talking with her about guns (in general), why you want one, why she thinks you'll hurt yourself (or your future children) with it, etc. If you hear/read a news story about guns (good or bad) discuss it with her.
Second mostest important thing: Don't push. Gently nudge, but know where her stopping point is, and when she is absolutely done with the conversation and won't hear any more no matter how much you keep talking, STOP TALKING.

A piece of advice, especially since you're not married: until she's ok with the idea of you handling firearms period, don't buy one and keep it in the house without telling her. And when you DO do that, be responsible with it. If she stumbles upon your hidden treasure, that is some serious bad juju.

I have kept my side arm pretty close for decades,
not once did a situation arise that required it being displayed.
I suspect that most people on this board could make the same comment.

Now this thing with her supporting Obama, that is something to be concerned about.
