Gun Ownership w/ a questionable partner

I'm looking to buying my first gun soon, but I'm a bit worried about the family reaction. I think I can handle that... but my girlfriend is a bit questionable about it, and just asks the questions "Why?", "What do you need that for?", and she obviously doesn't like the idea.

While I would like to be a CC, (and maybe graduate to an OC in the future), I think hiding it from everyone would be hard in that respect.

What sorts of things can I say to make this less of a big deal to her?

i just took my wife to the gun store, telling her i was going to buy one. she went along for the ride.

getting her on the range with a small caliber did wonders for my wife. the .22LR Beretta did wonders for both of us in terms of being comfortable.

Well how did you guys convince your wives? Were they all 100% supportive?

Then again, my girlfriend is one of those people that voted for her president.

I think I'm slowly convincing her of that mistake... so maybe I'll get somewhere with the gun talk. She keeps saying "Statistically, people hurt themselves/their family with their guns!" =/

nah, she'll lighten up. she might not ever become a gun junkie, but she'll come around. at first, my wife frowned and said something when i carried. now, i say "let me get something first" which is code for my gun...she just nods.

helljust the other day, she went to broadripple to meet some friends and i asked her if she wanted a gun. she actually thought about it, then said "nah, i'm not going to be driving down there alone."

she's getting better!

Guys help him out I know somebody has this info saved I worked like 10 hrs in the garden today my mind isn't up to finding all the info..

That's what I'm hoping. I don't want to force her into an uncomfortable situation, but for her to warm up to it and at least be indifferent would be nice.

Haha, thanks, it's good to hear this is a nice place to debunk that load of crap. It's the typical response, I know. I just don't have the resources yet to argue back

I carry now because of an experience I had (at gun point), very near broadripple actually.

When I first told my girlfriend (wife now) that I carry, I started with that story. She's never had any problem with it... but she also grew up with guns around, so a little different background perhaps. Anyhow, she won't handle them yet, but I'm working on that as well. Slowly but surely.

the news convinced mine. a string of breakins in our area and a bunch of armed robberies where i work did it for her.
