I think you should try a 10-22. Most first time shooters seem to love my Walther P22.

It looks like most have suggested .22's especially the Walther P22. I would recommend the same or go with a Sig Mosquito or Beretta Bobcat. Some women really like the smaller gun perhaps they think they are cute lol. My wife and her friends really get a kick out of the Beretta Bobcat...I think it makes them feal like a lady bond.

Too many people take their lady friends to the range and start them off with what they are shooting. Usually the big calibers .40, 45, 9mm. Not that women can't shoot them but they just should not start out on something that may scare them away. It is like when you are 12 years old and your pops hands you a 12 ga shotgun for their own entertainment.

My wife's favorite gun to shoot is the full size 1911a1 .45. She likes the way it rolls, back and forth.

id say a mosin nagant or a 12 gauge using sabot slugs

.22's are a good intro gun, however my wifes favorite gun is a glock 27

As said above I'd start with any 22, whether pistol or rifle. Start with the basic safety and make sure she totally understands and follows it to the letter. Then start with the basic mechanics, like how to hold it, sight picture, operation, etc. I'm doing this for 3 friends next weekend on my birthday at the range at Huntington reservoir. One is coming down Fri night from MI to stay the night with me so we can do this Sat, and the other two are will be coming up from Greenwood. I'm taking mostly 22's, may even have to borrow another 22 rifle to start with, but if I have to that's not a prob.
