Contact the Dekalb county Sheriffs department, ( in Auburn, IN) I am not sure if they still are but they did offer a womens only defense class, that may work to get her past the initial intimidation. and then mover her to an advanced class, as they don't use firearms in this class I beleive. That is if they are stil doing it.

| The Bearded One ![]() | On a serious note, I think my wife would be way more likely to take a class with other women. It is like Curves or whatever those women-only exercise places are called. People who are a bit self-conscious are more likely to loosen up if they think no one is paying attention to them in a negative way. I've seen far too many men try to talk down to a "little lady" who is pistol browsing only to find her more knowledable than the man trying to steer her to a DAO revolver because her brain is too small for something as complicated as a magazine or as "dangerous" as a Glock! ![]() Some additional thoughts... Sometimes husbands make poor teachers when it comes to guns. There is an emotional level involved that some couples seem to butt heads on when it comes to teaching. An argument fought over something while trying to teach your spouse about guns made lead them to association that argument with guns or training and hate it. Or some just have less patience with their loved ones. I don't get it, but I see it a lot. A third party alleviates this stress and allows the spouse to grow and shine. ![]()

I will be booking a female-only class later this year. The bottom line is I think it's important that women who own guns take training and maybe my offering this class will make a difference in the decision to take their first class. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

![]() ![]() | Ken Campbell (Boone Co. Sheriff) has a ladies only defensive pistol class. My wife is going to take it. Several reasons to have one: - Reduces intimidation and self consciousness - Reduces risk of being hit on (not necessarily eliminates it) - Makes it clear to the student that they aren't weird for being a woman who wants to learn to shoot or (OMG) CARRY A GUN. - There are some things specific to women, such as carry methods and firearm choice (gun makers don't exactly cater to small hands) that could really use extra attention and spark good conversation. |
