But $500 isn't all that expensive in the grand scheme of things. It's just a matter of prioritizing to acquire that spare $500.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There are very few women who teach anything firearms related. It's simply a reflection of the ratio of men to women in just about any gun-centric activity. Vicki Farnam is one of the few that I can think of that teaches regularly. For years, one of the main Glock trainers was female but I don't think she works there any more. Personally, I have been in a class that had a female assistant instructor but she did no teaching and only coached on the firing line.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was asking because I don't actually think I'd want a woman instructor. But I was wondering if others had and what they preferred. I tend to get a long better with men.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Last Thursday I had a good conversation with Glock21 about teaching in general, and a good portion of it was about teaching women and how it differs from teaching men (and it is different, at least during the basics and first class or two). Some women (and a small percentage of men) are going to do a lot better with a female primary instructor, especially if she understands and accounts for gender differences. A smaller group of women will do better or just as well with a male instructor, and they usually know who they are (in my opinion) before they take a class (as seen in this topic). Gunsite has at least one female lead instructor, Il Ling New(she's on the shooting shows on outdoor channel all the time). I've only seen her on television, but it's obvious that she is an excellent communicator and likely an very good instructor. Thunder Ranch has Heidi Smith (Clint's wife), although I don't know if she does the lead role as much. It's worth checking. More locally, if you go to Plainfield Shooting Supplies, talk to Deb Cheek. She's an accomplished shooter (to put it mildly) and I know she gives a lot of lessons to women (we've talked about it). If she charges at all, I'll bet it's very reasonable.
