That's my girl.

women at home - alone

i realize this thread has been dormant for quite some time; however, i just got this link today.
if these vids do NOT convince the woman in your life to learn to shoot AND be prepared to USE the weapon, i doubt anything will:

If he were actually hurting my daughter though or if I thought she were in danger, I probably would shoot to kill and not hesitate. At least I hope I wouldn't hesitate.
If you have not made this decision you might hesitate.

My ... Make the decision.

The law will give you some protection from lawsuits if you are legally defending your home. I'm not saying you won't be sued, but if it is found that you were defending yourself, then you will have protection from liability.

FWIW, if you shoot someone it is legally considered "deadly force" and the discussion of whether or not you shoot to "kill" or "maim" is moot, legally speaking. IANAL.

The only legal shoot is one you do to STOP someone from doing the thing that they are doing.

You have no way of knowing whether the person you shoot will live or die as a result, regardless of your intent to "kill" or "maim". You could hit someone in the heart or brain and they will live. You could hit someone in the arm and they die - but before they die, they might kill you and your children before they decide to STOP. The only thing you really want the BG to do is STOP.

If you aim for the arm or leg you are likely to miss.

Aim for the triangle made by the nipples and bottom of the trachea. Shoot until the threat is stopped, then stop shooting.

more... The BG made the choice to attack an armed person the results of his choice are his problem. I will fight to protect my wife and children until my last breath, and then hope to God there is still some ammo left for them to use.

Nobody (sane people) wants to kill or even hurt another human being. It is morally repugnant. Your feelings and questions are very normal. And my apologies in advance for playing the gender card... a woman, almost any woman, is at a severe disadvantage and unless highly trained should not be attempting to wrestle or fistfight a man... any man.

My sister is 6'1" and I won't mention her weight but she played college basketball and is very strong. She would not last in a fight with a determined man.

My college girlfriend was also 6'1", not built like my sister but not scrawny either. One day she got very mad at me and hit me as hard as she could - I know she did, I saw it in her eyes. (I don't remember if I deserved it or not, but I don't think so.) Frankly it didn't hurt. Not even a little.

I always tell my wife and sister that you shoot for center mass (as others have said), preferably with a shotgun. When it comes to a dangerous intruder in a high stress situation, your best hope is only to stop him. Wound or kill shots are only for snipers.

Of course, that's assuming they are a threat. If someone is running out the door, don't plug them in the back. I would recommend when you hear the sound of forced entry to let them know you are there and armed. No planned speeches, just something simple like "get out of here!" maybe dashed with expletives if desired.
