As an aside, this is something I often tell my four year old daughter.

"Honey, later when you're all grown up you'll have a friend called a 'therapist,' to whom you can tell all the stuff Mommy and Daddy did that hurt your feelings. Can you say 'therapist?' Sure you can."

Not acknowledging their child’s gender doesn’t mean it doesn’t have one. Heck, I have to call “IT” an “IT”. These people need a reality check. Raise your child to be confident in who they are.



I’m a girl: I’ve hunted rabbit with my dad and worked on classic cars. I own dresses and highlight my hair. I was the catcher on my little league team and hunted tadpoles. And I will be carrying a revolver. The only thing the boys could ever do that I couldn’t was “write my name in the snow”. That’s how my Mother brought me up. I LOVE being a girl and I like running with the boys!


Just like everything else, ignoring a thing it doesn’t change it. Teach your child to deal and be proud of who and what they are is empowering. Maybe my son shouldn’t know he autistic – it limits him?!? No it helps him to understand who and what he is and sometimes WHY he sees/does things differently.
