Ok I'll tell on myself. I found out that you cant shoot 380's in a 9mm:ugh:. didn't know I had a box of 380's in my range bag I grabbed a box of ammo and load the mag. when i when to shoot it kept jamming and not ejection the brass . after we were done shooting I when in to Indy Trading Post to have it look at it. the first thing they asked my was why there was a 380 casing stuck in it. I wanted to crawl in a hole I felt like such and idiot. +1 to Indy Trading Post for not making me fell like and idiot and checking it over to make sure nothing was damaged. Moral of the story always double check what ammo you have with you and before you load a mag and make sure there are no witnesses :ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh:
My wife is still making fun of me. :n00b: Darn that kills and ego :ugh::ugh:

Sorry mods I posted this in the wrong section Please move it to the right area

Don't feel too bad. I did something similar, I took both my M&P 9 and 40 to the range. Since both mags are the same size I got a 9 mixed in with the 40's. That's when I learned a 9mm will chamber and fire in a 40, no damage and I keep the shell casing on my desk as a reminder. Needless to say I painted a red dot on the back of the 40 mags and a white dot on the 9's.

Did the shell casing split or did it just bulge out???

I'm sure gun store operators see stuff like that all the time. If gun stores could come together and write a book, I'd bet it would be a hilarious read. At least you didn't go in there and start with, "Hey, why did you jerks sell me this piece of crap!"

I have a para carry 9 and a para carry .45. The guns look identical. I loaded 9mm into the .45. It was a let down when the gun went pop instead of bang!

No damage to gun. My ego took a little hit once I figured it out.

I am always nervous that I will do this exact same thing. My biggest concern is putting a 3.5" shell in my 3" 12ga. mag gun. I should buy brands of a different color so it doesn't happen to me.

Knew a fellow who inherited what he THOUGHT was a Mauser from an Uncle.
After a "Gunsmith" checked it out, sold him a box of 8mm. After 2-3 rounds at the range, he noticed strange things. Things like cases spliting/breaking. Primer pockets expanding and letting the primer fall out. After 2-3 more, the rifle exploded in his face. A cartridge base penetrated the skin, and rode up his forehead/skull. He was O.k. but looked like heck. Came to see me a couple of days later, all bandaged up! His family came out to the range to pick up the pieces of the rifle. Turns out it was a Japanese 7mm. ( Type 35)??? This fellow was a young L E O, and knew a little something about guns. However, in this case, didn't know what he had! He was lucky.....

    Holy crap...

I can understand mistaking the cartridges; the 7.7mm J and the 8mm Mauser LOOK similar. Heck, throw in the .30-06 in there and it's almost like looking at fraternal triplets.

A good buddy of mine was borrowed his uncle's Mitchell's Mauser K98 8mm Mauser for a few weeks. He wanted to clean it back up and shoot it a little. Only thing is that uncle gave my buddy a bandolier of .30-06 and not 8mm Mauser. I can't tell you how thankful both of us are that the .30-06 wouldn't completely chamber in the rifle. It'd come oh-so-close, but not quite.

    This is a non-issue.
The 3.5" shell will not chamber in your 3" shotgun.

I was out shooting today and decided to put a few rounds of #7 shot through my 18" barreled Mossberg 500 with pistol grip. I loaded 5 green Remington 2 3/4" shells and set out to finish off an old metal sign we had been shooting. On the third shot, I thought something happened to the shotgun because the blast was tremendous. When I ejected the shell, I realized that one of those green shells was a 3" Magnum slug. It happens, we just need to pay attention.

This is one reason I have all my 1911's in .45 ACP. I can have the occasional brain fart as anyone can. At the range with a friend that has a 1911 in everything from .22 LR to .45 ACP. he did the 9 MM in the .45 and we still laugh about that. No one hurt.
I have several Para's....My P-14 stainless Limited is one of the best shooters in the safe.
