I would be perfectly happy to let "The Region" be annexed by Chicago, where their corrupt loyalties lie, and we would take southern Illinois in trade. The good folks in southern Illinois would escape the jackboots of the Chicago political machine and we would rid ourselves of the corruption of NWI. Sounds like win-win to me.

your all nuts ive lived here my whole life, i work in east Chicago at one of "those" big stinky steel mills" i live hour south in demotte you wouldn't even know you were close to all that stuff. i have 5 wooded acres shoot i cant even see my neighbors houses barely. and i pay a ridiculous county tax but for me with the skills i posess there is nowhere else in indiana that i could live and keep a job making what i do. yes i am that "union scum" please dont beat me up for this i am a hard working guy who takes care of my wife and two daughters, i dont sleep at work nor leave early and get paid. just remember when you say that all union members are lazy your just purpotrating that stereotyping is ok, which we know is not the case because there are people assaulting the second amendment just based of their stereotype of gun owners.

there really is no soap box here i am a fairly calm guy just my 2 cents:D

Back in the 60s and 70s the ISP sent most all their rookies to the region to toughen them.

Oh, reasons why the Region is not held in high regard? How about: Gangsters, Crime, Gangsters, Crime, Vice, Crime, Gangsters and all that goes with all that.

Chicago has you in their pocket.

I have heard they hate us up here because of are attitude. Some of the people around here are ignorant and that is not all of us. I was raised to say yes, thank you, please. When other dont say any of those or show a act of kindness like holding a door, or say thank you when someone does a act of kindness. I dont agree that we are labeled as The Region. Just because you have some bad apples does not mean we are all rotten.

Maybe that's because Fort Wayne isn't in the Region (aka the Calumet Region). It's primarily Lake County.

The term "the region" is used a lot here in Ft. Wayne. CTS just lives under a rock called IPFW.

    Why do I dislike them:
    1. Influence of Chicago
    2. Political leanings
    3. Can't stick with Hoosiers with their clocks
    4. Location of all the good gun deals, too far to drive (or scooter!)
    5. Officer Maxey

Because every 'region rat' I ran into in college wouldn't shut up about being from Chicago when they were actually from Valporaiso or Crystal Lake, etc...

LOL, it's the same in the military, everybody wants to be from the big city. We had a DS once who was from CA and when marching his platoon for graduation they announced "DS so and so from Los Angeles, CA" we were like ***** you're not from LA.

Until now I didn't care that NWI existed. Now I'm mad. I hate the region.;)
Who says that ignorance is the root of prejudice?

"The Vast and Encompassing West Harrison", eh? Well, here are three more reasons to hate The Region: they got no goetta, they got no Skyline, and they got no Graeters!

The armpit of Indiana is what I call it. Honestly, I don't care for Indiana at all and would prefer to move back up north to Michigan if the job market didn't suck so bad up there. I'm a Yooper and proud of it! :rockwoot:

Never heard the term "the Region" but loved my time there.

Sadly, I will be moving away, but it wasn't for lack of trying. As a transplant myself from Illinois, the difference is pretty drastic to me when traveling from one side of the border, and I really couldn't care less which member of the republicrat party claims to represent me.

Call me crazy, but NWI is like visiting America compared to Illinois.

Down in Southwest Indiana many of us consider everything north of Indy to be part of Canada...

We are on Central time too, which is what the entire state should be on....

I was a Region rat, raised by immigrants who worked in the mills. I spent about the same amount of years on the Illinios side of the line as the Indiana side. If you head east from Calumet city, Il, you will cross into Indiana without even knowing it. The same goes for ridge road leaving Munster into Lansing IL. There is very little difference between the sides of that line. There is however, a huge difference between that area and the rest of the state. I have not been up that way in a while, it used to be that things got rural and politics changed pretty quick south of Crown Point.

Same here. I grew up in Lansing for 20 yrs and moved to Crown Point about 10 yrs ago. I have seen that town change so much. Still nice but would rather move further south. Maybe down by Andy. lol

The politics in the region, are too similar to Chicago's. That's the only real downside for me. I spent many a Sunday afternoon up there as a kid. I could see the AMOCO (BP) flame from my Aunts apartment.
