Ruger wont touch that modified rifle with a 10ft poll...and technically it is an illegal rifle to possess at this point let alone ship across state lines, even to the manufacturer.

    My fear, exactly.

Now, I am more afraid than ever before, since I am posting this on an international web of enthusiasts.

You should be able to ship the trigger assembly back to Ruger and they will put it it back to factory specs. No questions asked. No legality problems. There is no need to send the entire rifle.

I absolutely despise kitchen table gunsmiths.

    And Youtube trained gunsmiths.

Tried that already. I can only ship an entire rifle. Ruger will not work on just parts, they say.

This is why I am desperate to find a knowledgeable smith to help me out.

Yeah, the OP would be the first to send a botched trigger job rig back to Ruger.
Customer service................my guess is that they'll either tell him no go or do it for cheap.
There may be an upgrade issue his vintage may fall under and the swap of parts done for free.

I'd just be up front with what happened and not try to BS about it.

Being honest, in today's world that might bring a pleasant event of correction.

Don't plan on it, but it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't go down that way :)

I would never BS about something this serious and as I already mentioned, Ruger was not that helpful. I do understand why they will not just fix "pieces parts" of something that they could ultimately be held liable for in some knee-jerk court.

On a positive note, I did receive a response from a Gunsmithing business and I am planning to respond and possibly drive to his shop and dump this problem in his lap.

After market kit, meaning a completely new trigger assembly or something?

I would do this instantly, but I would prfer a decent gunsmith to help me through these troubles.
I'm sure there's something you can just buy and throw in with little trouble. Look into what's available at Midway or Brownells. If you don't see anything you like, take it to a local shop.

Provided the trigger group in the mini 14 is the same as the m1's, it is just a matter of adding a tiny bit of sear engagement. When I was learning the workings of the m1 trigger, my instructor showed how a couple swipes of a stone can cause and fix what you described.

That only works if it has been modified in the same fasion. If somone who does not understand how it works hacks on it the reeults can be difficult to correct.

    WOW!
I am often surprised at how many comments a simple question or problem can produce on this site.

I thank you all for trying to help!

While the suggestion that I do my own damn research was not ignored, I have found out a serious hell of a lot of what might have gone wrong during an attempt to lighten up a stock trigger pull.

I now understand way more about how this trigger assembly works and I can actually begin now to use proper nomenclature regarding my problem.

Let us know how it goes with the new gunsmith. If he does a good job for a reasonable cost, the rest of us will want to know. If oyu don't mind telling us, who are you taking it to?

Well, to be most honest, it was a small businessman, an hour drive away from me one way, with whom I have made second and third contact.

Based on little more than an expression on his part of his business ethics, I feel inclined to pursue his services.

I also feel that he might not mind my giving him a proper review in this thread (so far, so good), after all the work is done AND assuming that such is allowed on this site. Mostly, small businesses want to gain more business by accepting all the "word of mouth" advertising they can get.

But, I will get the work done first. Either way, I WILL try make a report upon the outcome.

Ruger does not sell important trigger parts to anybody.

There is no after market trigger for the Mini14.

Like others have said, you don't know what he did to your trigger. When jcj54 talks, I listen. He really knows.

I still say you should just send the trigger assembly back to Ruger and they will replace the modified parts with factory parts. They might charge you, but they did not charge me when I did it.

Heck, they replaced an entire Mini 14 for me one time at no charge after I had a slamfire and I destroyed one. And the slamfire was my fault..

Interesting.... learn something new everyday. I assumed it was just like any other gun and had parts available. I guess the mini14 trigger must be too easy to get wrong. Nearly every other part of the trigger group (strut, springs, etc.) are available.

    I did find this website:
Ruger Mini 14 Trigger Job, Mini 14 Match Grade Trigger Job, Ruger Mini 30, Ruger 6.8 Rifles

As you suggested, I looked over that site, and not only was I astounded at the availability of a complete trigger assembly, I was kind of put off by the prices.

... but that may be what I get for allowing a dodgy hack to touch one of my favorite tiny rifles.

Enough said. I intend to have something settled soon.

Thanks for everyone's posts and concern.
