This is an interesting and unexpected (by me) development. I'm actually surprised that the SR9 isn't more successful, given the trigger and how slim the grip is. It's a lot easier to reach the trigger of an SR9 than it is a G19/17. The only things I don't like about the SR9 are the stupid thumb safeties that get in the way when racking the slide and the lack of holsters and other accessories on the market.

I'm interested in trying one of the American Pistols.

I am interested. I don't have a need for this gun, but that can always change. I'll take a Ruger trigger over Glock or M&P any day. Without all the obnoxious safety features on this it may be a real competitor.

The SR triggers do improve significantly with use, in my opinion. They're still better than Glock triggers, out of the box, though. My Glock 19 is approaching 1k rounds and the trigger hasn't improved at all.

OK...makes sense. My neighbor loves the gun...even though he complained about the trigger initially. Not sure if he did any work to it to clean it up or just shot it more.

The American looks chunky...be interesting to see one in person.

So, which gun shop is going to be the first one to get them in stock? (Please God don't say Gander Mountain)

I'm interested. I also think the similarity to the Canik is curious, so I'm also interested in how it compares to the Walther(s).

    Gander Mountain. :):

Seriously though, I'm going to have to check one of these out. Nice to see a Ruger pistol with no thumb safety. I like Ruger products, and would have an SR9 if it weren't for the thumb safety and gawd-awful loaded chamber indicator. This new Ruger American pistol looks....ummm....interesting? Maybe it just doesn't photograph well, but it's the first pistol I've ever seen that reminds me of the Pontiac Aztek. Still, I'd get one if the trigger and ergonomics are fantastic, especially if the price is right. Based on looks alone, though, I'd rather have an SR9 without the unnecessary thumb safety and ridiculous loaded chamber billboard.

Suddenly, I'm glad the SR45 I ordered has taken so long to come in. I think I need to get one of these, instead.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Ruger fan and own a bunch of them. That said, I've heard more and more about QC problems in recent years. And then there is their history with pistol recalls... Just sayin', it might worth letting others be the guinea pigs for the first year or so? Ruger is also pretty good about (tactfully?) not keeping up with demand.

Premiere in Brownsburg doesn't have them in stock but gave me a price of $439. Not too shabby of a price.
