Well I'm not sure why because I've never even wanted to look at them before, but for some reason I just can't get the Glock 19 out of my head right now. I usually carry a Sig 938 and love it. I think I just want something higher capacity that will transition from carry to the nightstand and back and forth. Is this the one? From what I've read, and from friends it seems like the perfect balance. What is everyone's opinion? Do/would you carry one?

I have a 19 and 26 (gen 4 for both). In my mind the 19 is a really good pistol, does everything well, but it is a compromise gun. G17 is better for LE duty, has a better size grip, 34 better for competition, 26 and 43 better for CC. You can use the 19 for all those purposes, but the others have an edge for specific purposes. But, if you are only going to have one gun (9mm), it is just about the best ever.
I have really grown to love my 19 and what is awesome is with a simple punch, I can completely disassemble and customize it.

There are many reasons why the Glock 19 is the #1 selling 9mm pistol in the world! Not everyone likes it...but it is the #1! IMO...and if I had to have just one gun...it would probably be a Glock 19! $$ for $$...you probably won't find an 'all-around-better' pistol for home/personal defense and EDC!

I'm fortunate to have several pistols...and my G-36 is my EDC...but if the wife and I had to share or carry the same pistol...it would probably be a Glock 19!

Have you checked out the P320 compact?

Is that the perfect Glock? :p Edit: never looked at those, looks like a good option for a Sig guy.

For the OP, yes it is. And the 17 is more perfect and 26 a little less perfect.

Seriously though, I have a lot of Glocks for the main purpose of having common, easy to use guns in abundance throughout the house and for carry. I could probably be just as happy with a different brand but that's what works for me.

If you're like me then you should just get one and get it out of your system. It's a really good gun and you should be able to find a use for it if it doesn't replace your primary.

My first pistol purchase, and current carry piece, is a Gen2 Glock 19. It's a great pistol. It eats anything and runs reliably. Worth the $$$.

Yes it is for everyday civilian usage and protection. I have one with approx 35K rounds thru it without ever a malfunction with factory ammo and still looks close to new.

    haha, love it!

I think that the G19 is a great example of a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Someone said above that it is a "compromise gun" and I'd have to agree.
It's ok to conceal, but there are others that are easier to conceal (even as double stacks)
It's a good bedside/HD gun, but there are others that offer more rail space for lights, or have better balance, etc.
Great range gun, but again, you can easily find other options for a dedicated range gun
Competition, again, there are much better options even sticking with 9mm Glocks.

I currently do not own a Glock 19, but I will get one this year some time. If I could only have 2 handguns, it would be a G19 and a 6 shot 357 revolver (of the Ruger or S&W variety) because they are both versatile and ubiquitous..... don't make me choose between those 2

I will make it easier for you...:)

One is made of injected molded plastic in Hitler's home country at a cost of roughly $100 and is sold here in the US for about $500 or so....They are everywhere....The other was made here in the US of A and fires .357 magnum, .38 special, .38 S&W, or .38 Colt...It will feed wad cutters, shot loads and hollow points with the hollow point so big that you can put a cigarette out in it...They can still be purchased for $500 or so (depending on condition and they are creeping up..)

The point being, a Glock is a good gun that is still being made and they are literally everywhere....Smith and Wesson Model 19's are drying up and folks that have them are not letting them go...When given a choice between the two go with the harder one to find...

Hickcock45 once made a comment that it is kind of funny that the two firearms that have dominated the holsters of LEO's for the past 50 years or so were both Model 19's....They each have their place..

He said he has been carrying a Sig 938 so that is why I asked the question

    Im just messing with you;)

I will keep your recommendation in mind though when recommending G19 alternatives for people who don't like Glocks. I have a couple people in mind already.
