I'm left eye dominant as well. When I was young, I shot right hand whit my left eye, as I grew, there were more and more rifles that I couldn't shoot. Switching to shooting left handed wasn't as easy as one would think, and I still shoot right when I can. A high scope, a side or underfolder am, and my 1903a3. Those will still work right handed.
btw. That one of mine is a mod 8. I think it's from the mid 20s. Found it at a pawn shop in MO.

No love for .50 muzzleloaders? I just bought my first one and going to attempt to use it all season this year.

    Marlin 1895 GS 45-70 trimmed to 1.795".

Didn't much care for the ar platform, until I found out it could be chambered for 458 SOCOM.

Doing the same thing for next season, Marlin 1895 with the brass cut back. I just need to find some 405 grain cast. Hoping to find some this weekend at Kokomo. If not, I'll call Midway for a bullet mold...

I really want a 1895 45-70 just to shoot, but I didn't think about trimming the case for hunting. Is it hard to do or do you buy the rounds from someone?

I'm in the process of getting everything I need to reload 45-70. Actually just picked up some 405 grain cast at the gunshop today. It's currently a work in progress. I did read somewhere here that a shop was pulling bullets, cutting the brass down, the reusing the powder and bullet. Read this a couple weeks ago when I was researching the process here. There is 1 great thread on the process, I'll see if I can dig it up and post a link...

Was just looking at the website for the Kokomo show a few minutes ago.
How is Kokomo? Do they generally have a pretty good turn out? Or different from time to time?

It can be hit or miss. Seen shows that were packed, some that were dead.

I REALLY like my 450 bushmaster. I can't even think of anything I'd even like to switch to.

Never used it but the 450 bushmaster has the best ballistics of the rounds you can buy off the shelf. I use a marlin lever action 44 mag and have taken plenty of deer at 100 yards. Ammo is plenty.

With all of this, you may want to wait a little longer to see if the new regs that are proposed pass the Ind Senate which will allow a season for normal hunting calibers to be used on private land. if passed, it should move on to being able to be used on public land as well within a year or two afterwards.

Being from Texas, I am sure you would prefer to use a regular deer hunting rifle such as a 30-06, 30-30, 308 or the many other centerfire rifles used in most other states.

Welcome to Indiana. Hope your time hunting is successful

45 Colt if you reload, 44 mag if you don't. Covers everything at woods ranges.
45Lc Is my do all round, works great on everything that's not a rabbit or squirell! Never thought about shortening the cases on a 45-70, but it just seems like a tad bit of work....would love to hunt with my Sharps though..

    Hello,
I have been using a 44 mag loaded with 240gr XTP over 21.8gr of 2400. I use the same slugs in the 50cal TC. A good Friend has a Golden Boy in 357mag that has worked good for him. I have not tried my TC with the 357max barrel (hand gun) but I have talked to some that use a TC rifle in 357max and love it.
