I recently acquired a Springfield Range Officer and since it's my first 1911 I have a few questions regarding magazines.

Firstly, will any 1911 mag work for the RO?

Secondly, what are good quality mags on the higher and lower end price wise?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

OK I am assuming it is .45ACP but they are available in 9mm now.

I have a few RO's and have had the best luck with wilson mags. They have been reliable in all of my 1911's. These are the 8 round offerings.

Chip McCormack makes a good mag and all of my 10 rd. are from Chip.

I am sure folks will push their favorite marque as there are more than a few that will serve you well.

Hey, a couple of your 10 rd are Tripp's. ;)

My bad, I forgot to include that it is indeed a 45 ACP. Thanks for the help guys. I guess I'll buy a few from here and there and see what's what.

I have been happy with Wilson ETM magazines. I have some Tripp and Chip 9mm mags that are nice as well.

Wilson Combat mags are top notch. Chip McCormick mags are great, too and can be had for $8-9 less than Wilsons.

Changed out the beaver tail on any of them? I'd like to get one without a palm swell but every thing I look up contradicts each other.

Yes I have. I have done a lot to several as the RO is a great platform and accepts Mods very well.
Grip safety's are a personal choice. What ever fits your hand the best.

A cheaper alternative are the ACT 8-rd'ers. I've had4 of them for a number of years and they have worked flawlessly. I know not everyone has had thatsame experience but I wouldn't hesitate to throw a few in the range bag.

I'm going to cast my vote for Chip McCormick mags. I love them and can pick them up at most any gun show for $20.

I run Wilson 47 D's or ETM's in all my 1911's. I have around a dozen now. Springfield, Wilson Etc.

If it will not run on Wilson, something is most likely not right.
