Looking at getting my youth son a rifle for deer ( not this season). I want

I like the .357 Max for a youth deer rifle. Lighter bullets at higher velocities offer very manageable recoil with good accuracy and effective performance. My good friend chambered a contender carbine in .357 Max for his then 13 year old daughter. She's taken a buck with it every year for the...

      Brownells

I would like to add that the customer service and support is worth paying a little extra. I've been burnt more often than not trying to save a few bucks.

      Buck Shot loading

The buckshot manual from BPI is an invaluable resource for large shot load recipes and tips. I highly recommend it. BPI is also an excellent source for hard to find shotshell components.

      Youth .22

Another nice feature of the 10/22 is the availability if carbon fiber barrels. I set one of these up for my, 7 year old, daughter. The reduced weight of the carbon fiber barrel really works well for her.

      Youth .22

While slightly larger than the Cricket the 10/22 youth is a great small scale .22 that wont break the bank.

      .22WMRF conversion for AR

Actually the .224 bullet would be far superior to the .221 bullets used in the .22 LR if using a centerfire barrel because the .223/5.56 use .224 bullets. Our first design concept for this is an upper conversion similar to the CMMG coversion for .22 LR.

      .22WMRF conversion for AR

As far as I know no one makes this conversion. However, this has been a topic of discussion around our shop. We would consider designing a .22 WMR conversion, if there was significant interest.

      teaching my kids to shoot.

I also chose the Rossi two barrel youth model for my children, in .22 LR and .410. It has worked well for teaching both of my kids to shoot. My son is now nine and has moved on to other firearms but still shoots the Rossi very comfortably. My daughter is about to turn seven and handles the...
