So I recently helping to clean out my late uncle's workshop and happened upon this rifle... 5 minutes of research on the web later. I believe I'm looking at a Lebel 1886 Rifle. Beyond that I assume my late uncle brought it home from his time over seas in WWII I know very little of the unit...
You first mentioned "nothing but troubles".. what were the "troubles" you had in your 1st attempts with gun before the return and sight issue? Been considering a 42 and am curious. Thanks and sorry to see the hassles you have had.
I basically had the same school of thought and personal experience myself. I was considering an ultra light rod/reel combo for him. Easier in size for him I figured and can still put a tried and true reel that should last a lifetime barring any catastrophes being carried to and from the water.

Took my 4 yr old son out with his "Papaw" today and he got his 1st (3) bluegill and joined the ranks of grand kids whose fished with grandpa and has pictures for life... and one satisfied grandpa too. Good day
