Starting a new AR build, likely a 13.9 PW. I am wondering if folks on here have any real experience good or bad with an A5 buffer system and care to share.

I have them four of my AR builds. I can definitely feel a difference over a standard carbine buffer system. It seems to me to be a lot smoother.

It is NOT just marketing. The Vltor A5 system is, by a significant margin, the best upgrade you can do to an AR. The complete kit comes with a VLTOR intermediate tube, A5H2 buffer, and rifle length spring.

Personally, I run a Forward Controls Design RE5F A5 tube for more stock positions, a Vltor A5H2 buffer, and a Sprinco green rifle spring. I highly recommend Sprinco springs in any build. However, the basic Vltor a5 system out of the box will serve you well.

Looking at Criterion or Triarc as of now.
I highly recommend Criterion, or Centurion Arms in Indiana. Criterion CORE is the way, hybrid can suffice. Any barrels from Centurion (that most haven’t heard of) you can get, there are likely thousands that have been waiting for drops for 2 years now. Whenever I’d get a batch, they’d sell out in a day. Centurion Hybrids pop up often, CORES more rarely. Centurion CHF barrels have the best rifling I’ve ever seen under a borescope.

No real experience yet - but I'd like to have them on all my ARs.

But when the Big Brains over at Primary & Secondary tout them - you can bet it's good to go 100%.
