Geez, and to think I had to explain to a nosy teacher why I was a 4th grader reading Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities". The fact my reading comprehension had tested to 8th grade level didn't matter, or that the book was in the school library. Also got in trouble for reading non-fiction stuff about science, technology, and military weapons systems such as missiles, bombers and their nuke bombs. I'm guessing I was supposed to be awash in Hardy Boys mystery books. That said, I do admit to having read Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" in the 3rd Grade. Two books that would probably be banned now, especially Huck Finn.I know right, they were unassuming with plain blue hard covers. lol
One of my teachers saw me reading them and talking about guns and they took offense to it.
