This. Check out IDPA on the 2nd saturday of the month. Its an easy practical shooting sport to get into, and the folks there are very welcoming and supportive of new shooters. Just let them know you are new and they'll put you through a new shooters brief, and help guide you along throughout the day.

All you will need is your pistol, two extra magazines, magazine pouches, and a cover garment. The cover garment can be a fishing or photography vest, or even a button up casual shirt that you leave unbuttoned. Per the rules, the gun must not be visible below the edge of the cover garment with your arms stretched out 90 degrees (make a T), but if your shirt doesnt cover it they wont bust you on it if you are trying it out.

Just go slow and deliberate on your first couple matches and you'll do fine.
