Vehement opponents said an open-carry law in Florida would instill fear, rather than calm. Here is what one critic said.

“When I am out at Starbucks and there’s a cop there with his gun, it’s intimidating and it’s scary,” said Shawn Bartelt, a retiree and mother of two teenagers from Orlando. “I do not want to walk around when I walk my dogs and know that somebody’s carrying a gun out there. … I don’t want my kids raised in a world where we’re being less civilized.”

How radical do you have to be to think a police officer carrying a gun is intimidating and scary? Who do you think she would call if a non LE was carrying a gun and it scared her...

Nothing new here. They always spout the same talking points, the same ones that have been disproved each and every time. Open carry is legal in what, 45, 46 states now? It's not been an issue anywhere else, but if we pass it in Florida, the streets will run red with blood.

As the sheriff stated, it doesn't change who can carry, or what they can carry, just how they can carry.

So Ms. Bartelt, you would rather live in a world where you don't know who is carrying, rather than being able to identify the good guys? Willful ignorance. I don't think she knows just how stupid she comes across with that quote.

Because the cop might order the wrong drink?

The sheep cannot tell the difference between the wolf and the sheep dog.

Sweetheart, it's Florida. Lots of people carrying guns. They just have their shirts over it unless they are fishing (open carry is legal in Florida only under certain circumstances).

Antis whine about "hidden guns" and then won't let us carry guns openly either. How is a political position based on her ignorance and fear "civilized"?

From all the research I have done it sounds like Florida is going to get open carry when it is all said and done, looks like Texas getting it opened a lot of eyes.

It's the same old "If I can't see it it's not there" mentality. I could close my eyes whenever I see things that I don't like but they will still be there.

Shock and Awe! Sheeple scared of armed Police Officers!
To the OP: Get a life if you live in Florida. Too many drug dealers, career criminals, name it. Hope they all go armed to the Shuffle Board games, even defend themselves when needed. Carry big guns, black ugly ones. Maybe hold 15-17 rds per magazine!

Cops don't stand around and wait for crimes. Armed. Would you like to have an unarmed Cop come to your Home Invasion, and use Stern Language while the perps are attacking your Wife and 15 yr old Daughter? If I walked in on that scenario ... it would mean paperwork. Lotsa paperwork. Bounty tuff-absorbent paper towels.

If you see one at Starbucks, buy him coffee. We always drank coffee at the local truckstop. Paid for it too.

What that bizarre comment proves is that the propaganda campaign being waged by the MSM and liberal/progressive/socialist politicians is working at least with some weak-minded fools. Note the OBJECT of fear is an INANIMATE object. Literally a relatively simple machine made of steel and plastic.

Just thought it was funny that opponents are STILL using the "wild west" defense.
My first thought to this woman's comments were, who is she going to call if she is a victom of a crime, if she finds cops with guns scary and intimidating?
    Sheeple is right.

Yup. They wouldn't want to look at other States. They treat it as if it's a new subject, and no one's ever done it before.
