6 months ago one of my co-workers bought a truck for scrap and found 2 boxes of .38 special reloads plus some in a ziploc baggie. All that he shoots is .22s and .410s so he gave them to me. On one of my trips to the range I thought I would try some out my GP100. First one dropped in and the next 3 would not go. Upon closer inspection most of the cases were bulged. :n00b: I cursed myself for not checking the ammo real closely before bringing it out to shoot and put all of those reloads away. Lesson learned. I do not reload or have a bullet puller so I gave them to my local gunshop to dispose of.

Someone once told me that they dispose of old/bad ammo by dropping it into a container of muratic acid but I'm a little hesitant. Besides it cost nothing to give it to the dealer. Now that I have found INGO, do you think putting old ammo in classified as free would be a better way of getting rid of it.

All kidding aside, please don't post bad ammo in the classifieds. Easiest way to dispose of bad ammo is to take it to the local PD and give it to them.

Something is wrong with the ammo, so DON'T shoot it.

I would not give someone bad ammo to shoot. Just have heard some people say that they would have taken it and reused the lead. The more thought I give it, classified is out. The thought of someone reusing an unknown powder scares me. Yes, no one SHOULD do something like that....

Even free ammo, I do not shoot reloads from people that I do not know and trust. Especially a cartridge like the .38 special, where two or THREE times as much powder is possible. My firearms are worth more than any savings, and my HAND is CERTAINLY worth more. Be careful. You might have been lucky that the unsized cases would not chamber and help convince you to not shoot. Glad it turned out fine.
