I was wondering if you could cut down an existing AR barrel and then have it threaded to make a SBR? I know other types of guns can have barrel alterations a lot of times but I have a 14.5" upper with a pinned flash hider that I was thinking about removing. I am not stuck on doing that but I was wondering if it was even possible or worth while on the AR barrels?

    Thanks

You better have your Tax stamp first! es you can cut down and re crown/ thread your barrel. I too am looking at doing a SBR build! Just not sure of the platform I want to go with.

IMHO, while you can do that, you may come out time/money ahead to buy a new barrel and sell the pinned 14.5" barrel. Typically there is a significant up-charge to have a flash-hider pinned/welded on, even if your barrel is used you would like come out ahead or even on money by buying a new barrel of your chosen length and selling the used one. :twocents:
