Or the pressure is relieving itself and we will not have another major one for a couple of years.

As long as the earth is composed of moving plates there will be earthquakes. Just like climate change, which has been changing constantly since the beginning of this old earth, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions have been and will continue to happen.

They've been "a heralding" this big megaquake ever since I can remember.
FWIW there's evidence that there have been large quakes--+/- 9 on the richter scale--in the Pacific NW about every 350 years. The last one was about 370 years ago. For that matter, seismologists have said that the mega cauldera in yellowstone is due to erupt sometime in the next 10,000 years too, so just enjoy the day--and maybe don't invest in seashore property in Oregon or Washington.

It is alarming to say the least.

I don't get it. Having lived most of my life in Commiefornia, quakes aren't really anything to bother about. Tornados on the other hand are pretty creepy.

Me: So, what would the world look like if just part of California slid off into the ocean and millions of lives were lost?
OG: Well... We would be able to elect a Republican President....
