So much reminds me of the 1970s when the arabs turned off the tap setting off the "energy crisis", but this seems much more self generated. Nixon had the gas rationing stamps printed, but never issued, I wonder if there will be some sort of "electronic rationing" this time. People talked about paying for gas with old US silver coins back then if they really needed it.
Reading about the rationing of home heating oil in the northeast I'm reminded of how many companies that fabricated metal got into the wood stove business during the 70s. The company I worked for at the time manufactured high temperature coatings for metal, and it picked up new customers and expanded existing business. It didn't last long, most dropping out in the 80s, but I'm wondering if that, or something else will show up this time around. Not sure how the hipsters will handle this, cutting firewood isn't a job for the inexperienced. Maybe the cold will motivate them.
