Today I picked up a model 10 on a pretty good deal. It turns out the reason I got a good deal on it is that the gun won't cock into single action. From looking at it, it looks like the hammer was replaced at some point and never fit to the gun.

I have a model 19 I can look at to compare the lock work, and I was wondering if I would be able to fit the hammer myself. Is there anything I should be aware.of or look out for while fitting this?

Hard to tell from the angle of picture and video but looks like the hammer doesn't have a single action notch. Might have come that way from the factory or someone has ground it off.

Your handgun may have belonged to a police officer at some point. Some of there were double action only. This was achieved by removing the hammer spur or installing a hammer that didn't have a single action notch
