    I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you want 20-25 amps there is hardly anyway about getting around the weight of the variac for that rating.
    If you find can find a multitap transformer it may be lighter but the Iron and copper will be needed to carry the current no matter what

    This is what I thought... but INGO is full of some great minds, just seeing if anyone had a work-around. 20 amps is a bit over-kill, I could go down to 10-15 amps. The longest the power supply will be on is about 6 seconds to test the anti-pump ckt.

    I have one, not sure if it works, not sure if I want to let it go or not. I think I'll play with it a bit first

    Micronta (Radio Shack) 5 amp.

    My variac works. I plugged a light into it and had a really heavy dimmer. Right now I have no use for it.


    Thanks, but 5 amp's is way too small for what I need. 15 amp is the minimum, last week we were blowing a 10 amp ckt breaker at the place we were working at. About every 3rd or 4th test the switch would trip.
